People get dogs for all sorts of reasons. Some want a cuddly companion, while others desire a protective pooch! Since the kinship between man and wolf, dogs have been a legendary guardian and form of security. We get it... Most people want to feel safe and sound, especially in their home! One of the major factors when getting a dog is choosing a breed that can defend their family and property.

Some canines come prewired and have a natural instinct to guard their humans. These dogs tend to be alert, intelligent, dominant, and can come across as aggressive. They will sound the alarm when strangers are approaching and may attack if they sense danger. Anyone wild enough to enter a premises with a sign that states "Guard Dog on Duty" may be in for a nasty surprise.

There are many different aspects of guard dogs you should consider before committing—having a protective pal should not be taken lightly! They need a lot of training and consistent hard work. It's very important to socialize your dog from a young age so it doesn't become overly suspicious.
