Miniature Schnauzers are the smallest of the three Schnauzer breeds. They have a big personality, are often outgoing, and fairly active. Minis have luscious eyebrows, a beard, and the kind of face to carry both of them off. (If you think they have a stern human-like expression with these features, you’re not alone!) The Miniature Schnauzer comes in three different colours: salt and pepper, black and silver, and completely black. Their coat is wiry, hard and absolutely needs to be groomed quite regularly.
Miniature Schnauzers come from the Standard Schnauzer breed, whose lineage goes back to the 15th century. These tough, muscular animals worked on farms, helping rid them of rodents. Bred with strong observant skills, Miniature Schnauzers make for great watchdogs, protective of you and your home. This breed is adaptable, able to go from roaming large expanses of farmland to small apartments. They enjoy physical activity and love spending time kids.
Miniature Schnauzers live long and healthy lives, barely shed, and are able to travel quite easily. They are intelligent, friendly, and obedient, making them a great family dog choice.
