Try to begin training your Yorkie as early as you can—as early as seven to eight weeks old is recommended. They learn more effectively when the root of your training techniques includes repetition, consistency and positive reinforcement. The dogs are generally easy to train and respond well when treats are involved, but it’s important to be patient and calm if your Yorkie doesn’t understand what you’re trying to communicate or takes a while to catch on. Obedience starts with the basic commands of sit, stay, down, come and how to properly walk on a leash or heel. By three to four months, the Yorkie should be a well-trained dog.
The Yorkshire Terrier’s ears are small, v-shaped and set not far apart. Healthy puppies will have clean ears with no signs of discharge, redness, inflammation or pungent odour. If the puppy is aggressively scratching or pawing their ear, tilting their head or excessively flipping their head, it may also be a sign of discomfort. Breeds with floppy ears are more prone to infection or disease.
