German Shepherd Training

German Shepherd puppies love learning, affection, and bonding with their humans. As a puppy, they're very hyper and playful! Because they may get distracted easily, it's a good idea to keep training sessions short and sweet. They're eager to please and learn basic obedience quickly. Owners are capable of training a puppy themselves, but German Shepherds will benefit from puppy training classes. Due to their size, it's vital they learn how to act and behave around other dogs. Positive reinforcement and treats as rewards work best with German Shepherds. Once they've mastered the basics, try advancing learning like agility, herding, and tracking! Because of their disciplined nature, they can eventually learn to also be specialized service dogs. There is nothing a German Shepherd loves more than having a job to do, so it’s important to keep them busy. As a puppy, even gnawing down on a bone after a game of fetch will entertain them. Don't forget to give them plenty of affection and snuggles after training!

German Shepherd Puppy Ears

The ears are moderately pointed and proportionate to the skull. They should perk up once your pup gets attention! Healthy puppies will have clean ears with no signs of discharge, redness, inflammation or pungent odour. If the puppy is aggressively scratching or pawing their ear, tilting their head or excessively flipping their head, it may also be a sign of discomfort. Breeds with floppy ears are more prone to infection or disease.
