You’ll want to start socializing and obedience training your Anatolian Shepherd Dog pup as soon as you bring it home. These naturally independent dogs will grow to be big and can become stubborn if they’re not trained properly. Anatolian Shepherds are known for their selective hearing, and can engage in temporary “deafness” if they don’t feel like listening to a command or their owner’s wishes. Make sure to train your pup with consistency and assertiveness, using positive reinforcement. You’ll need to take an active and firm leadership role in training your Anatolian pup. Otherwise, this independent breed just won’t listen.
Anatolian Shepherd Dogs have floppy, triangle shaped ears that can become more pronounced when alert. Some Anatolians can have feathering on their ears. Healthy puppies will have clean ears with no signs of discharge, redness, inflammation or pungent odour. If the puppy is aggressively scratching or pawing their ear, tilting their head or excessively flipping their head, it may also be a sign of discomfort. Breeds with floppy ears are more prone to infection or disease.
